James Titmas is a professional engineer who has served in the US Army as an Airborne Ranger, authored  numerous technical papers, engineering design and zoning standards, portions of national building codes, and secondary stress analysis and design criteria. He has led over eight hundred projects in water supply and  wastewater treatment in nineteen countries, and holds twenty-three method and apparatus patents relating  to the conversion of organic wastes to biofuels and biochemicals and the control of emissions from  combustion. James has published his new book “The Galumpy Board”: an entertaining and inspiring story  for young readers. 

The author shares, “Children are given material from a waste pile of boards. They learn the merits of being  polite and asking for permission. The children decide a bridge is needed across a ditch between their houses.  They work together and solve problems using trial and error. They actually are learning the engineering principles of beam strength, beam deflections, dynamic  loadings, and lateral stability. In addition, they also learn and practice some carpentry arts. They learn about  safety and realize they could be hurt if they are not careful. They feel the pride of completing what they  started out to accomplish.”
